Does Insurance cover neurofeedback?
It is becoming more common for insurance companies to cover the cost of neurofeedback. When they do, it is on a case-b- case basis, and they are more likely to provide reimbursement than preauthorization. I can help provide documentation of diagnosis and procedural codes for reimbursement.

I can process HSA payments for neurofeedback and counseling.

What can I expect in my first session?
The first counseling session is called an intake session. It’s usually an hour and a half and gives us an opportunity to deep dive into your past, your current struggles, and what you would like out of therapy. It also gives us an opportunity to decide on some goals for therapy.

The first neurofeedback meeting is a two-hour brain mapping session. In those two hours, we will record your brain activity, review the results, and discuss their meaning. It also gives you an opportunity to get a good idea of what to expect in future neurofeedback sessions.

How many sessions does neurofeedback require?
Really, this answer depends on each person’s unique brain. It’s impossible to predict how many sessions somebody will need, but I have found that typically the average needs between 20-30. The good news is that most results are permanent.
How many sessions before I start noticing the effects?
Because of their greater awareness, adults tend to notice improvements sooner, around the fifth to seventh session point, while improvements for children and teens tend to become visible between 7 and 12 sessions. Certainly, there are many who notice improvements right away, and they tend to require fewer sessions to reach their goals.
Will neurofeedback work for me?
For the vast majority, yes. Research consistently shows a 95% positive response rate to neurofeedback therapy.
Are neurofeedback results permanent?
For most clients and conditions, results are permanent. I still keep in touch with some of my early clients from 2007, many of whom had problems with depression, Tourette’s, and chronic pain. Their improvements are still going strong. However, some conditions that are repetitive by nature, like OCD and addiction, benefit from yearly refresher sessions.
Are there any side effects to neurofeedback?
There have been very few documented cases of serious side effects to neurofeedback; in fact, they are so rare and easy to correct that in my practice I have never had anybody complain of one. However, it isn’t uncommon to experience a headache or irritability after the first few sessions. If you do, let me know, and we will go over some of the possible causes and adjust training.
What age do you have to be to do neurofeedback?
I regularly get calls from parents of young children with ASD or other issues hoping for help. Neurofeedback requires an individual be able to sit still in a chair for at least 20 minutes. My youngest client was 5 years old and my oldest was 81.
